An adaptation of Keach's Catechism in modern English.
**Question: **
*Answer: *
34Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.
1So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—
13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
1Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,
2For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.
10and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
11I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
Question: How is the Word to be read and heard that it may become effectual to salvation?
Answer: That the Word may become effectual to salvation we must attend thereunto with diligence, preparation and prayer, receive it in faith and love, lay it up in our hearts and practice it in our lives.
No Change.
