Question 85

Modern Adaptation

Question: What duty does the third commandment teach us?

Answer: To honor God’s name, word, and works.

Traditional Formulation

Question: What does the third commandment teach me?

Answer: To reverence God’s name, word, and works.

Adaptation Commentary

Supplies the word ‘duty’ to continue the sectional theme. Additionally the workd ‘reverence’ is modernized to ‘honor’. While the word honor doesn’t quite capture the same quality of awe and wonder that reverence does, it is sufficiently close.
